TWO local fishermen were rescued after their fishing vessel caught fire off Land’s End on the afternoon of July 16.
Falmouth Coastguard requested the launch of the Penlee RNLI lifeboat at around 1530 and the lifeboat was told that the two men had abandoned their vessel and were in a liferaft. Sennen Cove lifeboat was sent.
On arrival on the scene at around 1600, the Penlee lifeboat located the liferaft and transferred the two men to the lifeboat. Both were uninjured. The lifeboat took them back to Newlyn.
The Penlee lifeboat was refuelled and returned to the scene to assist the Sennen Cove lifeboat in standing off the burning fishing vessel to ensure other vessels kept clear as there was a risk of explosion. Both lifeboats stayed at the scene until early evening.
