Irish Continental Group has entered into a bareboat hire purchase agreement for the sale of its 1987-built Oscar Wilde to Mediterranean Shipping Company SA for its Italian GNV subsidiary.
The purchase price of almost €29 million is payable in instalments over six years ending in 2025. Formerly Color Line’s Kronprins Harald the Oscar Wilde was bought by ICG in 2007 and operated on Irish Ferries’ routes to France with relief roles on the Holyhead and Pembroke Dock routes.
The ship became surplus to requirements following the recent introduction of WB Yeats on direct route to France from Dublin.
Irish Ferries announced in December, that it would unlikely operate a service between Rosslare and France in 2019 as the majority of its customers had a clear preference for the more central location and easy access of Dublin.
