The last surviving example of an American Riverine patrol boat in Europe, P22, has moved to a new home following a massive hike in the mooring fees at Ramsgate.
P22 was built to patrol rivers and estuaries in occupied Germany following the end of the Second World War. She had recently been opened as a part time tourist attraction within Ramsgate’s Royal Harbour, close to the Maritime Museum, but the local council imposed a stiff increase in mooring charges forcing P22’s owners to move her to neighbouring Sandwich Quay.
In Sandwich, she was welcomed to her new home by large crowds as well as the Town Mayor. The vessel also had a starring role in the recent blockbuster Dunkirk.
